Meek Mill was interviewed by CBS’ local Philadelphia affiliate today alongside Cleveland Cavaliers star guard Dion Waiters about the difficulties and challenges that come with success in both hip-hop and basketball. The duo—both Philly natives—will both be attending the Dream Chasers Summit on August 30 at Temple University, and as part of their interview they were asked about the intense competition in both their fields, with Kendrick Lamar’s fiery verse on Big Sean’s “Control” brought up. Masoud Barzani, the president of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, has said that he  will use “all capabilities” to defend Kurdish civilians who are under threat by  Al-Qaeda-linked fighters involved in the Syrian civil war.The statement comes  days after reports of a possible massacre in Syria. EU branching out: 20,000 bank outlets closed in EU since start of downturn

Banks in Europe have cut 5,500 branches in 2012, bringing the total number of outlets  closed since the beginning of the credit crunch in 2008 to 20,000. To cut costs financial institutions are shrinking  their bricks-and-mortar presence and going digital.

Banana-tossing Giants fan says gesture wasn’t racially motivated, just out of frustration

A San Francisco Giants fan stepped forward on Monday, claiming responsibility for tossing a banana on the field Sunday and drawing the ire of Baltimore Orioles outfielder Adam Jones.

The fan — identified by the San Jose Mercury News as Alexander Poulides — says the incident wasn’t racially motivated as most, including Big League Stew, interpreted. Tossing bananas at black players isn’t something we see often in America, but it’s a well-known sign of racism at European soccer matches. Continue reading
