5 Reasons You Should Exercise

We are not talking about a lot of time either, my client Jen is down 4lbs in two weeks and she literally exercises 15 minutes a day.   Even during our hour long training sessions she still does 15 mins, the rest of our time is dedicated to catching up on who was eliminated in The Voice this season, she is quite thorough.    Here are 5 reasons you need to block out some time everyday and dedicate it to physical fitness.

  1. Weight Loss-  With more than two-thirds (68.8 percent) of adults being overweight or obese. More than one-third (35.7 percent) of adults being obese. More than 1 in 20 (6.3 percent) being extremely obese.  And almost 3 in 4 men (74 percent) being overweight or obese, someone needs to lose weight.  Exercise is the best way to do that.   Being consistent with a little bit of exercise everyday (15-30minutes) will keep you focused on losing weight.  Our last $1000 Weight Loss Challenge was an exercise class with 62 people and almost everyone lost a significant amount of weight.   We only met once a week for an hour to workout, but the hour kept people focused throughout the week to eat better and become more active.  The human body is the equivalent to a sports car, in the sense it is designed to move and move consistently.  Any exercise burns calories and calories burned equate to the scale going down.
  2. Improves Mood-  A new study was recently released that showed within five minutes after moderate exercise people get a mood-enhancement.  If you find yourself stressed, worrying, or even depressed exercise relieves all of those things.  The brain works in a fight-flight type of way.  So when you sweat, breath heavy, or feel exhaustion through exercise your body is better equip to handle stressful situations, because it deals with it through exercise on a regular basis.  Have you ever heard of a “runner’s high?” Well, it describes the effect of “feel good” neurotransmitter chemicals released during exercise that elevate mood during and after a workout.
  3. Better Sleep–  People sleep significantly better and feel more alert during the day if they get at least 150 minutes of exercise a week, a new study concludes.   A nationally representative sample of more than 2,600 men and women, ages 18-85, found that 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity a week, which is the national guideline, provided a 65 percent improvement in sleep quality. People also said they felt less sleepy during the day, compared to those with less physical activity.  So more energy during the day and better sleep at night, you can’t beat that deal with a stick
  4. More Attractive- While standards of beauty vary across cultures (except in my case I seem to have a universal appeal.  Kinda like the Donald Trump of Personal Trainers,  The Blacks love me, woman, legal Mexicans, etc..), youth and healthiness are always in fashion because they are associated with being reproductive.  Have you ever asked yourself why every culture holds athletes in such high regard?  The reason is that they have physique’s that are appealing.  A body that is toned, that is strong, and that is limber is a body that most people want to look at.  If you are single and looking for a mate, get in better shape.  Studies have found that people who are in shape want to be with someone who has a nice body and people who are out of shape want to be with someone who has a nice body.  The way to get a nice body is to exercise.
  5. Increases Longevity-  What could you accomplish in 4 years.  Chances are you could accomplish a lot, well that’s about how much more time you get in your life if you exercise regularly.  This does not account for how many more “quality” years you get because you are healthy and not constantly in the doctor’s office.  Cancer, Diabetes, Stroke, Hypertention, etc… are diseases that shorten the lifespan of everyone and the quality of life.  These diseases can be offset by regular exercise.  Who doesn’t want to live a longer life?  I watch countless people get “old” before their time.  Exercise is not punishment it’s a reward for your body.  The opposite longevity effect holds true for an obese individual.  The same study that found regular physical activity can lengthen ones life by 4 years, also found that being obese and inactive can shorten ones life by 7.2 years.  When you get to your last days don’t wish you made a different decision, make it today!
