After Get Out, Jordan Peele Just Made the Best Possible Career Decision

As of now, Peele is one of the most promising and sought-after young directors in Hollywood. He’s definitely not going back to the sketch comedy grind, where he spent eight years of his career after starring on MADtv from 2003 to 2008 and Key & Peele from 2012 to 2015.

“I’m happy to not be in sketch comedy right now,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. When asked if his sketch comedy career is over, he said, “Yes. I want to focus on writing, directing and producing.”

This is great news, as after the massive triumph of Get Out, it would be rather disappointing to see Peele return to sketch comedy. Sure, Key & Peele was brilliant, but after it launched his career, Get Out is proof that he should take the time to sink his teeth into bigger projects. He also has the opportunity to make some much needed changes to Hollywood. As he told The Hollywood Reporter:

I think the lesson is that when you give black voices a platform and the opportunity to tell our story, we will tell good stories just like anybody else. The power of story and the power of a well-crafted film or television show is really all you need to speak to people. I think Hollywood is sort of catching up to that. We’re at the beginning of a renaissance where people are realizing black films can not only work at the box office, but they can work because there’s been a void.

This is exactly what the industry needs. And Peele is the man to make it happen.
