Last week the women of the historical Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  made sure to end Black History Month with a splash. The pink and green ladies made a sizable pledge to historically Black colleges and universities at their headquarters in Chicago. The presidents of 31 HBCU schools were in attendance for the check presentation and luncheon last Thursday. The $1.5 million dollar check was the first installment of $10 million dollar endowment towards HBCU institutions by the AKA’s and their charitable partner.

AKA Sorority president Dr. Glenda Glover was on hand to personally to announce the names of the schools and their representatives at the presentation.  “It was deeply important that my administration under Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc have a focus on providing sustainable solutions for our historically black colleges and universities. It is no secret that some of these treasured institutions have had challenges in terms of retention and matriculation of their student bodies due to financial concerns.” Glover said in a statement.

In addition to their contribution, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc encourages education advocates and donors to also donate to HBCU schools at AKAEAF.org.
