Alabama Woman is Being Charged with Manslaughter after Getting Shot in the Stomach and Losing Her Fetus

A grand jury has indicted Marshae Jones for manslaughter after getting shot in a stomach and losing her fetus. Ebony Jemison shot Jones after the two got in a scuffle. “The grand jury, based on the facts presented, determined that Ms. Jemison acted in self-defense and did not warrant charges against her and that Ms. Jones should face charges for her actions resulting in the death of her unborn child,” Jefferson County Bessemer Cutoff District Attorney’s office said in a statement. Back in May, Alabama’s governor signed a law that bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, without exceptions for rape or incest. The exception under the law only applies to situations where the life of the mother is endangered by her pregnancy. The law has not taken effect yet but still has caused a legal challenge from opponents. To read more about this story click here
