Album Review: Mc Eiht: Wich Way Iz West

There are also some features from people we haven’t heard from in a while but are still dope. Lady of Rage, Big Mike, and Bumpy Knuckles drop some dope verses on this album and remind us that there is no expiration date on fresh lyrics. There are also appearances by WC and Eiht’s crew Compton’s Most Wanted. The Outlawz kick off the album with Eiht on the first track called Shut Em Down. The song is a good indicator of how the album flows, it has a vintage Eiht sound but it sounds fresh. Eiht has never been the most lyrical emcee, but he has always made good music. With that said, Eiht seems like he has elevated his rhymes. He has always been known for his slow, storytelling type of flow. However, on this project, he sped up the flow and included more metaphors and punch lines. It probably has to do with the production. Break Sinatra, does an excellent job with the beats on this album. Songs like Compton Zoo, Pass Me By, and As I Proceed to show how his beats inspire MC Eiht lyrically.

Even though I didn’t like the beat DJ Premier chose on Runn the Blocc, he probably produced the best song on the album. Last Ones Left featuring Compton’s Most Wanted sounds like that old Music to Drive By gangsta shit from back in the day. Premier laced the beat and Eiht and his crew come with it on the verses. Overall, Which Way Iz West is a solid album. A lot of times, artists from the 90’s who drop albums today sound outdated and out of tune. However, this album captures the vibe of the past, but sounds new. On my grade board, I give MC Eiht a C+ for his Which Way Iz West album. I share the link below for those who want to check it out.
