Album Review: Mr.P-Chill: “Persistence”

Persistence has 17 tracks, with one of the tracks being the intro. The production is O.K, but the flow and lyrics are below average. There was an imbalance of continuity on this album. Tracks like “Good Times” had a dope beat but Mr. P-Chill didn’t match its intensity lyrically. Other tracks such as “Face the Circumstance” displayed an improved flow from MPC, but it was on a lazy and outdated-sounding beat.

I think P-Chill best lane is when he is personal and self-confessional with his lyrics. “Tonight’s the Night” was cool, so was “Forty.” The best track I heard was “The Woman Beside Me,” a song he dedicated to his wife. All these songs have that common theme of being personal and relatable.

One thing I give MPC credit for is his honesty. There is no ‘frontin’ on here, no dreams of someone reliving their youth.  Mr. P-Chill gives you his age, his journey, his struggle, and his pain. That doesn’t take away from the album having minimum head nodding power. In some way, this helps explain why some people may listen to phony rappers who make good music.
