Armed Man Stopped By Police As He Was En Route To Commit Church Shooting

Albert was taken into custody without incident on charges of possession of marijuana and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The San Antonio Express-News reported that Albert told police that he was heading to a church to “fulfill what he called a prophecy.”

Albert has a lengthy criminal history, with six arrests since 2009. He was most recently charged with assaulting a family member in 2017. Law enforcement officials said that he has a history of mental illness.

Albert was reportedly a member of the First Church of Cannabis and practices a form of Messianic Judaism. He told police that he was planning to attack the First Baptist Church in Vidor, Texas, which was over 250 miles away from where he was found.

Local police were glad that an alert citizen called 911 and prevented a potential tragedy.

“This morning, the Seguin Police Department is extremely grateful to the citizen who called police,” Seguin Police spokesperson Tanya Brown said. “If this subject was not stopped and apprehended the results could have ended differently.”
