Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms criticizes bystanders who filmed the aftermath of the man who killed Attorney Courtney Cox

Recently, Courtney Cox was killed in Midtown Atlanta. The shooter was identified as 32-year-old Jarvis Jarrette, who began dating Cox over the summer. On October 20th, police responded to gunfire at the Atlantic House high rise at 3:14 am. Upon their arrival, police saw Jarvis leaping from a balcony to another balcony before firing a rifle at the police. It is reported that at least one officer returned fire.

Police then discovered Cox was dead in her apartment and Jarrette end up dying on the roof. It has not been revealed if Jarrette died from an officer’s bullet or if it was suicide. It is also not known how much of the incident was witnessed by bystanders but the mayor was not pleased that they pull their phones out to record instead of calling the police.

“Just a reminder to the public to please call 911,” the Mayor said at a news conference. “We did start receiving phone calls but social media received information and has received more information, quite frankly, than we have received through our 911 center,” she added.

So for us to be able to appropriately respond and assess, we just ask if you can put down your camera, put down your phone, call 911 and then allow us to do what we do.”
