Beyonce Leads MTV Video Music Awards Nominations

Beyonce, currently in the middle of a 21-date On the Run Tour in support of her critically-acclaimed self-titled album, scored eight nominations including Video of the Year for her duet with husband Jay Z, “Drunk in Love,” best female and best choreography. Eminem and Iggy Azalea followed with seven nominations apiece.

Beyonce and Jay Z’s “Drunk in Love” will vie for the top prize against Azalea and Charli XCX’s “Fancy,” Pharrell Williams’ Oscar-nominated song “Happy,” Sia’s “Chandelier” and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.” Recent Video of the Year winners include Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,” Rihanna and Calvin Harris’ “We Found Love,” Katy Perry’s “Firework” and Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”

In the best male music video category, Williams competes against John Legend’s “All of Me,” Ed Sheeran’s “Sing,” Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and Eminem and Rihanna’s “Monster” duet. Beyonce’s “Partition” goes head-to-head with Azalea, Lorde’s Grammy winner “Royals,” Ariana Grande’s “Problem” and Perry’s “Dark Horse” for best female music video.
