Beyonce Leads MTV Video Music Awards Nominations

Capitalizing on the EDM craze, MTV has introduced a new category, the MTV Clubland Award — the VMAs has recognized dance music over the years, most recently in 2012 when Harris won the Moonman. Zedd’s “Stay the Night,” DJ Snake and Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What,” Harris’ “Summer,” Martin Garrix’s “Animal” and Disclosure’s “Grab Her!” are the nominees.

Those receiving multiple nominations include Jay Z, Perry, Cyrus, Williams, Grande, Lorde, Smith, Sia, Zedd, Avicii, Pitbull, Jason Derulo and Hayley Williams.

Starting Thursday, fans can vote in VMA categories by visiting http://vma.mtv.com. Nominees for best lyric video, which will be voted on through social media, will be announced at a later date. Voting for MTV Artist to Watch will be done via text messaging to 22444 with the nominee’s name.

MTV rolled out the nominations through its official Snapchat account featuring Austin Mahone, Fifth Harmony, Becky G and network stars Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf), Jillian Rose Reed (Awkward), Carly Aquilino (Girl Code) and Charlamagne Tha God (Guy Code). (Last year, MTV slowly rolled out the nominees via Instagram and Vine.)
