Black Milk Talks Touring, Detroit’s Hip-Hop Scene & Streming Sales Scans

In 2010 you released your album, Album of the Year. What’s you personal album of the year so far in 2016?
“Shit, we was just listening to it right before you walked in. It’s Esperanza Spalding’s album, Emily’s D+Evolution. I’ve been listening to that. I’ve been listening to Anderson .Paak’s Malibu album. But musically, Esperanza’s album just blew my head off and fucked my mind up. The arrangements are on some other shit. Really it’s some next level music shit.”

It’s been two years since your last official album, can we expect something new this year?

“It’ll probably be next year. I did The Rebellion Sessions project with Nat Turner earlier this year so right now we’re just gonna be touring a lot for the rest of the year. We’ll probably get back in the studio towards the end of the year and make a part two or an instrumental-type project. Really I’m just trying to develop some new sounds, new textures, and new waves and see where I wanna go with the next album for next year. So that’s really what this year’s about man.

“I am probably gonna release some more hip-hop stuff too. I’ma try to get out Glitches in the Break Vol.2 – that was an EP I dropped in 2014 – and that’ll be a project where I feature a lot of MCs that I work with but instead of splitting them up we’ll put them all on one project. I wanna work on that and try and get it out before the year is over.”

You mentioned that you’re going to be doing a lot of touring. What prompted that?

“We’ve been touring and going hard with the shows for the last three years, you know what I’m saying? We’ve always toured for every album but this time around we’re touring even though the album is a couple of years old. But this tour is called The Rebellion Tour so it’s in support of The Rebellion Sessions project that I mentioned earlier. So that’s kinda what we’re doing right now. The show is a little bit of music from that project and plus music from my solo albums.”
