A Louisiana police officer will not be facing any charges after shooting and killing a woman in a hotel lobby. Officer Patrick Edmonds Jr. confronted Shannon Rupert, 45 at a LaQuinta Inn in Bossier City, Louisiana after he was called for an emergency disturbance. Rupert was holding a pair of scissors and daring Edmond to shoot her.
“You’re going to have to shoot me, n***er.” She also said, “You’re not taking them. Shoot me. You’re not taking them. Shoot me. You’re going to have to shoot me!” After repeated requests to put down the scissors, the officer shot her when she tried to attack him. Bossier City Police released a statement saying, “The officer gave multiple verbal commands to Rupert to put down the weapon. Rupert then aggressively approached the officer with scissors in hand. The officer fired two rounds from his department-issued handgun, striking Rupert in the upper torso.”
According to District Attorney Schuyler Marvin, the officer committed no crime. “Based on all evidence reviewed, it is my firm opinion that no crime was committed by the officer as his actions constituted justifiable homicide,” he said.
