On the surface the support for 22 year old Stephon Clark has been overwhelming. The Sacramento native was gunned down and murdered by local police after being chased by the officers. The ensuing cops fired 20 shots, ultimately striking and killing Clark. Autopsy revealed that he was hit by eight bullets, six in the back, one in the thigh and one in the neck. That autopsy report countered the officers claim that Clark was approaching them when they shot him. Since his death, there have been numerous rallies, protests against his killing and the onslaught of murders by police officers against unarmed Black people. The latest rally was spearheaded by former NBA player Matt Barnes, who is also a Sacramento native. Other NBA players, specifically some from the Sacramento Kings have joined in on the protests against the killing. Former Sacramento player, DeMarcus Cousins offered to pay for Clark’s funeral.
