I feel guilty putting the Roots so low on my list. They are one of my favorite Hip Hop groups and in my opinion, have two classic albums with Illadelph Halflife and Things Fall Apart. I wasn’t feeling their 2002 album Phrenology, but I thought The Tipping Point was dope. I haven’t really listened to the last few albums that they dropped but it still goes on their resume for longevity. The reason I didn’t put them higher is that I felt other groups were more commercially successful than them at their peak. Although their success wasn’t strictly based on commercial success, I still had to consider it when making my selection. In the end, my personal taste was lost to impact and album sales.
