BLACK TRUTH NEWS PICKS THE BEST 25 HIP HOP GROUPS OF ALL TIME [Full List]

11. A Tribe Called Quest

A Tribe Called Quest’s 1993 album Midnight Marauders is one of my favorite albums of all time. I think it is the group’s only classic album. A lot of people will argue against that point by saying that The Low End Theory is also a classic album and a better album than Midnight Marauders. I personally would have put Mobb Deep and Gangstarr ahead of them, but I think ATCQ has had a bigger impact on the rap game than those groups.

10. Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five

Even though Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five came out before my time, I still have to honor the legends. How can I have a top ten and not have the group who’s DJ pioneer and revolutionized the turntables in it? How can I have a top ten and not have a group who put the first scratching on record? How can I have the top ten groups and not have the group who had an emcee who’s style spurn the label Hip Hop? They had the first superstar emcee in Melle Mel. Who probably could be considered rap’s first “King of New York.” They are in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. displays their historical archives, the vinyl records and the turntable used by DJ Grandmaster Flash. Salute to the pioneers.

9. Geto Boys

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t really listen to the Geto Boys last album The Foundation, or their first album Making Trouble. However, the five albums in between those first two was all needed to put them in my top ten. Even though I enjoy Willie D being a part of the group, I thought Till Death Do Us Part with Big Mike on it was their best album.
