Black Truth News Top Ten NBA Players for 2021 Playoffs/Season

Point Guards

STEPHEN CURRY

Points: 32.0

Rebounds: 5.5

Assists: 5.8

Steph Curry is one of three finalists for the MVP this year. Even though he didn’t make it to the traditional playoff system, he still has proven that he is the best point guard in the NBA. Without the help of his running mate Klay Thompson, he managed to lead the league in scoring while averaging over five in rebounds in assists.

DAMIAN LILLARD

Points: 28.8

Rebounds: 4.2

Assists: 7.5

This was a difficult decision, even while I’m typing this, I am indecisive about who I should put in this slot. I’m going to go with Damian Lillard here because of his leadership, his stats, and his previous playoff performances. If I was judging this strictly on numbers, then I would go with Russell Westbrook. Once again, he is averaging a triple-double for the season and passed Oscar Robinson for the all-time leader in that category.

Then you have Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Chris Paul. Ben Simmons doesn’t have the same offensive output as his counterparts but is the best defensive player at this position. Personally, if I was starting a team and had to choose a point guard; I probably would pick Luka or Ben Simmons. However, Dame has had a better season and has to deal with a lot of injuries on his team.

Shooting Guards

JAMES HARDEN

Points: 24.6

Rebounds: 7.9

Assists: 10.8

I think the controversy James Harden faced at the beginning of the season helped him out. He was criticized for publicly announcing that he wanted to be traded from the Houston Rockets. During that time, people called him selfish for sitting out games due to COVID protocol. However, around the same time, he was spotted at rapper Lil Baby’s birthday party. His off-the-court behavior allowed people to amplify his shortcomings on the court.

Although he is regarded as one of the best offensive players ever to play the game; he has also been called a ball stopper who doesn’t always make his teammates better. I think that narrative forced Harden to change his approach to the game after he got traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Of course, having Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving on your team will make you change your approach.  Harden just hasn’t taken a back seat to the other two stars. When he is on the court, he makes everyone better.

DONOVAN MITCHELL

Points: 26.4

Rebounds: 4.4

Assists: 5.2

Keep in mind this is the playoff edition of the Top Ten. And in last year’s playoff Donovan Mitchell played his ass off. He was engaged in an epic scoring duel against Denver Nuggets Jamal Murray that showed everyone watching, that he was the truth. Although his team lost, he averaged 36.3 points in that seven-game series.  This season he made the all-star team and led his team to the best record in the Western Conference. I’m a big fan of Paul George, Devin Booker, and CJ McCollum but I had to go with Mitchell here.
