Boston Celtics PG Isaiah Thomas intends to play following sister’s death

Thomas’s sister, Chyna, was killed in a one-car accident in Washington state on Saturday morning.

Stevens said he would ultimately leave the decision to play up to Thomas, but he expects Thomas will suit up.

“He’s struggling obviously,” Stevens told reporters. “Tragic circumstances for his family.”

Stevens believes Isaiah Thomas’ intention is to play, but comments, “He’s struggling.” Coach is encouraging IT to do what’s right for him.

The car traveled off the road around 5 a.m. and hit a Jersey barrier, which State Patrol spokesman Nick King said “vaulted the vehicle head-on” into a sign post.

According to State Patrol, Thomas was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and died at the scene.

The Celtics released the following statement on Saturday evening.

We are terribly saddened by the tragic loss of Chyna Thomas. The thoughts & prayers of the entire organization are with Isaiah & his family.
