Cab Cabernet Interview w/ Blacktruth.net

Where do you think your music fits into that?

My artistry represents class, style, refinement, self-respect, creativity, etc. It’s an aspirational lifestyle. An option. My clothing fits, I dress clean, carry myself with dignity and respect. My music is a reflection of the past, the elders, and I think we need to go in the future. Think about Sammy Davis Jr., Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday, etc. Those artists were young black men in their 20s making music that is timeless. It was mature. You can dig it at 15 or 55 years old. It’s classic. What will be the classics of today’s youth? Will they be able to listen to today’s rap music when they are 30, 40, 50 years old? I don’t think so.

cab pic 2What was your process for recording Krushed Grapes: Harlem Vintage? Did it come out like you expected?

I wanted to create an album that represented an era lost. A lifestyle. A brand. The imagery, content, direction, all tells that story.

What’s your favorite non-rap album of all time and why?

I cannot name one favorite. I have too many. I can say that my favorite musical era is the ’70s. So much groundbreaking in music in general.
