The Voice judge was charged with furnishing ecstasy, or MDMA, when he met a woman at a sushi restaurant for dinner last year, according to TMZ. The unidentified woman told police that after Green slipped a drug in her drink, she later woke up naked in bed with him with no recollection of how she got there. He was also possibly facing a sexual assault charge, however Los Angeles prosecutors threw out the sexual assault charges based on lack of sufficient evidence. So he is now facing the charge of furnishing the drug.
The singer arrived with his lawyer Blair Berk to the criminal court house today for his arraignment. He is currently posting $30,000 bond and is expected to turn himself in to authorities for booking within 24 hours.
Green, 39, whose real name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, only spoke once in court today during the arraignment, and that was to confirm his understanding of his case’s scheduling in court. He’s due back in court on Nov. 20, and if he’s found guilty, he faces four years in state prison.
On his way into court, CeeLo told reporters that he’s relieved and not scared, meaning he is relieved that he’s not being charged with sexual assault, and not scared of the drug charge.
CeeLo’s attorney told TMZ, “We are pleased that the Los Angeles County District Attorney has completed its investigation and concluded that the evidence did not support the false and unfounded claims made over a year ago.” She said any sexual contact between the two was consensual.
She adds, “As it relates to the one charge of furnishing or sharing ecstasy, Mr. Green will responsibly address that matter in a court of law.”
