Chicago Engineer Daryl “DX Simpson Passes Away

Unfortunately, I have nothing clever to say to express the loss of Hip Hop engineer Darryl “DX” Simpson. All I can say is he will be missed for several reasons.

For one he was a loving husband and father, two he was a public school teacher and mentor to plenty of children in Chicago and Illinois. I didn’t know him that well on a personal level, although I was aware of his brilliance in his field of education. I made mention of his “LIL D” multiplication chart in our newspaper. The chart was a great way for children to learn multiplication through hip hop. Here is a link to his press release that he sent to blacktruth.net; you can check it out here.

What I knew DX for was being a real dope engineer who made my music sound better. That sounds like a simple relationship but anyone who ever recorded music in a professional studio knows it much deeper than that.

Sometimes, depending on what type of artist you are, the engineer and you are the only people in the studio. He listens to you, not just your music, he has to be able to understand your vision and convey it sonically through the speakers. It is not easy to find a good engineer, especially an affordable one.
