Chicago Engineer Daryl “DX Simpson Passes Away

Using that as my premise, I would have to say DX was one of the best. He understood that in order to get my vision out, I had to do things my way. He gave me a grace period because he knew I was going to be late. He allowed me to kick my shoes off, and do me. I’m sure he provided that type of freedom to a ton of people and that creative space cannot be understated.

I wanted to describe his role because it is an overlooked aspect of creating music. Everyone has to be on the same page. The engineers, the assistants, and even the person who just sits around every session and nods his head are just as important as the artist.

So when the community loses someone like DX, it is tragic and hard to replace. The great thing about it is his legacy moves on. D was a smooth and intelligent brother and I thought people should know his contribution to the Chicago music scene.
