Chinese woman offers to marry whoever is willing to pay the medical bills for her sick brother

Fan Piying, 25, was found standing in the Springs Plaza in Jinan, eastern China, with a sign stating: ‘marriage offer to save brother’ in a bid to pay the fees.

In March last year her father contracted tuberculosis and the family racked up medical bills reaching more than 10,000 yuan (£1,000), according to Huanqiu.com, an affiliate of the People’s Daily Online.

Then on New Year’s Eve, her brother’s existing tuberculosis and meningitis took a turn for the worse and he was transferred to another hospital for emergency treatment.

To date, the costs of his treatment have reached 150,000 yuan (£5,000) and she said her family had depleted their entire savings.

She added her parents were both aged 51 and did not work, instead opting to look after her brother in hospital, so the family had no income.

In Jinan she pays 30 yuan to share a room in a motel with another young woman and everyday wears her 100 yuan (£10) dress and stands in the busy street with the sign hoping that she can raise the funds needed to save her brother’s life.

Though no suitable groom had yet shown up, she media she had so far received around 400 phone calls and 6,000 yuan (£600) of donations.
