Churchgoers in Sri Lanka attending “a festival of music for peace and harmony” were given vulgar lyrics about female genitalia and gang violence by Tupac Shakur instead of their traditional religious hymn earlier this month. A church in the Sri Lankan commercial capital Colombo handed out booklets that were meant to feature the words to Hail Mary, a common Christian prayer. But instead, they printed out Tupac’s “Hail Mary,” which features lines like, “Do you wanna ride or die?” and “revenge is like the sweetest joy, next to getting p***y.” Although the bizarre mishap took place on Dec. 11, churchgoers have just now reported it. “A lot of people were in shock as whether it was a joke or someone would actually rap the song,” said one churchgoer, Andrew Choksy, in comments to CNN. “A few of the older ladies in front of us could not stop looking at the printed booklet.” The organizers of the event, held by the Archdiocese of Colombo and the Joseph Vaz Trust, later apologized for the mistake. They said the printer had been a “young boy” who downloaded the wrong “Hail Mary.” “We are very sorry to say that this happened,” Father Da Silva of the archdiocese told CNN.
