Columbia Records Teaming With HBO for ‘Music Inspired by Game of Thrones’ Album

The eighth and final season of the Emmy-winning HBO drama is due out in 2019, though an exact airdate has not yet been announced. GoT‘s action is driven by the pulsating score provided by Ramin Djawadi, but the series has frequently tapped musicians in disguise to appear or perform on the show. Season one featured an extended cameo from Dr. Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson, Snow Patrol singer Gary Lightbody sang a bit of “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” in season 3, Coldplay drummer Will Champion jammed with a house band in that same season and Sigur Ros performed “The Rains of Castamere” at Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery.

You might remember Mastodon were killed off in season 5’s “Hardhome” episode, Of Monsters and Men played in the background in a few episodes of season 6 and, in one of the most famous cameos, Ed Sheeran hung with Arya during the “Dragonstone” episode of season 7.
