“Coming To America” Sequel Confirmed After 30 Years

Black-ish creator and Girls Trip co-writer Kenya Barris has been tapped to rewrite the script and Jonathan Levine of The Wackness, 50/50, and The Night Before will direct the Kevin Misher production. They replace original writers Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, original director John Landis and producers of the 1988 original, George Folsey, Jr. and Robert D. Wachs. There has been no word yet on whether actors Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley or John Amos will be returning for the sequel.

No date has been established for the beginning of the film’s production or its expected release.
