That last word killed him; in the words of Bill Duke “you then fucked up now….you know that; don’t you?” but he continued “I was jealous of Grant Hill. He came from a great black family; congratulations. Your mom went to college and was roommates with Hillary Clinton. Your dad played for the NFL, is very well spoken and successful man. I was upset, and bitter that my mom had to bust her hump for 20 plus years, I was bitter that I had a professional athlete that was my father, that I didn’t know. I resented that more so than I resented him. I look at it as, they are who the world accepts; and we are who the world hates.”

The name Uncle Tom became a hot topic, controversy followed, including a rebuttal from Grant Hill posted in the New York Post: He mentioned that Jalen was sort of unapologetic about his feelings, even though they were expressed from an 18 year old kid perspective. Hill mention that it was “it was sad… to see friends calling me a bitch and worse, calling all black players at Duke Uncle Toms… Hill continued “and to some degree disparaging my parents for their education, work ethic and commitment to each other and to me.” I think Grant Hill and people like ESPN analyst Chris Broussard misunderstood Rose. Broussard who said Rose “use a bad choice of words” also added “Their identity is messed up and as long as Black people feel that way, we never going to be all we can, and that’s what Grant was attacking in his article.”

There is a nation within a nation in this country. One where, some people can truly appreciate the spoils of this great country we live in and be free to do what they please. Then there is another place, where the justice of the law doesn’t apply to the people, and they have nothing in the world but the conservation between them. When you come from that world, you can easily identify the people that don’t. I think Jalen was speaking up for those people, or maybe I’m biased because I am one of those people. I would give you details about my world and our attitude. But Jalen did a better job when it came time to defend his comments.
