Common Dedicates Emmy Award to “Incarcerated People in the Prison System”

Chicago legend Common kept it humble and Hip Hop while accepting his Emmy award for his song “Letter to the Free.” “This award is for all the incarcerated people in the prison system and for justice. In the words of the late great Phife, ‘I’ll never let a statue tell me how nice I am.” Common wrote on Instagram. In another IG post, Common quoted another Hip Hop legend: “I never thought that hip hop would take it this far. Now I’m in the lime light cuz I rhyme tight..! (c)Biggie THANK YOU to everyone involved with this project!” He exclaimed. The song appeared on Common’s 2016 Black America Again album, but won the Emmy for being featured Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary 13th. To read more about this story click here.
