Concert Review: “Wu-Block”– Ghostface Killah & Sheek Louch

With all that said, I just thought the performance was just O.k. I particularly didn’t like the cypher style performance the emcee’s planned out for the show. For example would spit his verse from a song like “All about the Benjamin’s” and then Ghost would follow up with a verse from a song like “Ice Cream.” One of the reasons that format didn’t work for me is because I believe that Ghostface Killah has a more extensive catalog than Sheek Louch. In fact, I think Ghost could have carried the show on his own if he wanted too. Once again this is a knock on Sheek, who I think is a fair emcee; I’m just not familiar with anything he has done outside of the recognizable Lox tracks. On the other hand, outside the hits of Wu-Tang Clan, Ghost has two solid solo albums, a classic album with Raekwon, in addition to a ton of features. I may sound bias, ok I am bias, but I would have loved to hear some songs off of Ghost’s “Supreme Clientele” album, which I didn’t. Hell I would have liked to hear some songs off their album they made together, but once again there was no primary focus on it.

There were some good moments though, like when Ghost invited two audience members out the crowd to recite Method Man and Ol Dirty Bastard verses on “Wu Tang ain’t nothing to fuck with”; or when the ladies were allowed to dance on stage for a couple songs. In the end, I would have to say I enjoyed myself. It’s very rare to get an complete thumbs down from me when it comes down to 90’s Hip Hop. Since I didn’t get a chance to hear the Ghost and Sheek album from last year, I put a link to the entire album here.
