Johnson’s son, who had the Twitter handle @JimmieJ82, started the trouble by tweeting out photos from the Jets’ family room at MetLife Stadium after the 24-17 loss to the Eagles. First he tweeted a photo of Geno Smith and wrote, “bum a**” with it.
Then he fired at Cromartie. He took a photo of Cromartie with his children and wrote, “Antonio Cromartie with 2 of his 15 kids.”
Cromartie fired back, “Y the F you worried about my family. If it wasn’t for your dad you wouldn’t be nothing in life @JimmieJ82. You better watch yourself son.”
And then Johnson’s son replied, “Yo f— you Cro you weak a– bitch. You gonna be playing till you 60 to pay all that child support.”
Johnson then deleted the tweets, apologized and changed his Twitter handle.
TMZ caught up with Cromartie on Monday and he said he was not sorry for his role in the fight.
“You don’t take a picture of my kids and talk trash,” Cromartie told the website.
He continued, “I’m not going to apologize for what I said in regards to my kids. You don’t take a picture of my kids and talk trash.
“People are constantly talking about me and I never say anything. I am a father, and I love all my kids, and I will not allow anyone to disrespect them.
“Again, you can talk about me all you want, but my kids are off limits. You just don’t play with people’s kids. His actions were unacceptable and hopeful he learned that.”
Cromartie actually has 10 children.
Jets coach Todd Bowles said the issue was addressed.
“We handled it in-house,” Bowles said. “We’ve got bigger fish to fry than that.”
Bowles sounded like he understood why Cromartie was upset.
“He is a parent,” Bowles said. “He’s going to say what he has to to protect his kids. We moved on. That’s not going to stop what we’re doing right now.”
