In a big step forward for urban agriculture in Detroit, Mayor Mike Duggan is expected to announce a deal Monday to transfer about 40 acres of city-owned land near Eastern Market to the RecoveryPark farming project.
RecoveryPark is an effort to grow food commercially inside the city and use the profits to support SHAR, a drug addiction recovery agency, including putting recovering addicts and ex-offenders to work.
Gary Wozniak, founder and CEO of RecoveryPark, said the announcement is expected for 11 a.m. Monday near Chene and Ferry on the near-east side.
