Awol: The most challenging part about throwing a great event is actually the first step – Making it all official. That process consists of getting the perfect venue on the right date, getting just the right artist to headline, and all this for the right amount of money.. You want an artist that can create a buzz in some form or fashion. The worst thing someone can say is who’s _____? when he or she is supposed to be your main draw! Now even after all your costs are determined, the dates have to align for both parties. Meaning your famous headliner has to be available when the venue is, and vice versa. It can be very frustrating, because at this point its completely out of your control, and you’re just sitting there with your hopes up, waiting for the whole thing to happen.
Black Truth News: How long does it take?
Awol: From start to finish I like to have 4 weeks total to promote the event and get all my opening acts on board. In some cases I’ve pulled it off in 2-3, but it was a lot more stressful.
