Grind Corner: Que Billah

Black Truth News: Tell us more about the Mix-tape.

QUE BILLAH: First I was like I needed to drop a Mix tape; something for the people and I was listening to BIG (Notorious Big) one day and he said “I drop unexpectedly like bird shit.” And I was like I’m gon drop a Mix-tape and called it “Bird Shit,” you know unexpected, no promo, on the internet.

BTN: How long does it usually takes you to complete the songs for your mix-tape?

Q.B: Well it took me the whole year to get this project done. For one, I got a full time job. If I wasn’t working full time, it would be quicker. Plus this may sound crazy, but I record like 70 songs and then choose the best one from there. I do that because I record for different projects. I may have like four things going on at once and certain songs are for different projects. For this particular Mix tape I got 24 tracks and I had 32 to choose from. It’s kind of tough selecting which songs to put on there. To determine what the people may like can be difficult. I had my guys listen to all the songs that I was considering to put on there; and then pick the ones they like the best. They couldn’t decide which ones to should on there either. Each song is like one of your kids, because it means something to you when you write it.  Sometimes I can do a whole song in a half hour, sometimes it takes me three hours to do a song; but if I’m in the lab all day, I’m cranking out four songs in a day instead of one song in a week.
