Fashion giant Gucci has a new ad campaign called “Soul Scene.” The Campaign uses only black models and dancers. The campaign is said to be inspired by Britain’s Northern Soul Movement of the 1960s. Essentially it is a snapshot of a dance party that takes place in the 1960s. It shows colorful pictures of Black folks dancing, smiling, and having a good time. It is quite possible that Gucci’s intentions were to diversify its approach to marketing to a wide range of people. To that extent, they should be applauded for their efforts.
