Hackers Want to Shut Down Trump Tower’s Website Over ‘Hateful’ Remarks

Citing Trump’s “consistently hateful campaign” for president, the hackers group Anonymous has called for like-minded web surfers to shut down the Republican front-runner’s websites, starting April 1 with trumpchicago.com, the website of the Trump International Hotel & Tower.

“Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing,” Anonymous says in the video, which has been viewed about 215,000 times since being posted earlier this month. “You don’t stand for anything except for your personal greed and power.”

The video then broadcasts well-publicized Trump gaffes including his remarks about Mexican immigrants and Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly

News of the video was circulating Tuesday, the same day as Illinois’ primary elections, and just a few days after Trump canceled a campaign rally Friday at the University of Illinois-Chicago because of the large number of protesters that turned out. Anonymous, a group known for its use of Guy Fawkes masks, has more than 1 million Twitter followers and has taken credit for recent cyber attacks on Turkish and Hungarian government websites, among other things.

In the video, Anonymous says the hacks will protect the global future and “freedom of our very way of life.”

Despite the threat, the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago has made it clear it’s not hosting campaign events or otherwise aligning itself with Trump’s White House bid. A representative of the Trump hotel, 401 N. Wabash Ave., said it was not hosting any watch parties or other campaign events Tuesday night.

The building was targeted earlier when a group of mostly Bernie Sanders supporters set up a Facebook group that grew wildly popular for suggesting Chicagoans “dump” Trump Tower into the Chicago River, where it could “float” out of the city

Trump (+6.5) was leading in the latest Illinois polls reported Monday, but his lead here has slipped from double-digit levels in the past month. A New York-based Trump Organization spokeswoman declined to comment on the planned website hacks.
