Hear Unearthed Phife Dawg Verse on New Dwele Song ‘Wanna Dance’

The Mike City-produced track finds Phife setting his sights on a woman and spitting an array of playful pick-up lines over a steady groove and hypnotic synth swirl. “Why roll with money on the bench when you can have the first string,” he boasts at the top of his verse, later closing in a seductive drawl, “Why you so charming?/ Skin softer than a roll of Charmin/ You’re so alluring.”

“Wanna Dance” will appear both on Dwele’s upcoming album, Same Book … New Chapter and Phife’s posthumous LP, Forever. The pair previously collaborated on a remix of Dwele’s 2012 track, “What Profit.” Per the lyric video for “Wanna Dance” – which also includes various facts about the artists and song – Phife and Dwele recorded the track in 2015 while working on their respective solo records.

Phife Dawg died last March from complications resulting from diabetes. Not long after, the rapper’s first posthumous solo track, “Nutshell,” was released, while later that year he appeared on Tribe’s We Got It From Here … Thank You 4 Your Service.
