Hennessy (Rapper) Interview with Blacktruth.net

Are these collaborations a planned thing, or do these projects come about organically?

With the Beatknocks, I have been rocking with Saul ever since I have been recording. It’s been over 12 years; so we have a huge archive of music. We were also part of a group called Forensic with two other guys; but the group didn’t really work out. So after that happened; we started doing solo stuff. Then we decided that it was time for us to do an album together. We did one and released it in 2013. It really had a good response; so now we working on the follow-up. As far as the other groups; it is pretty much get in the studio and record with people more than once. Then it’s like that we already we got these done; why not move forward and make a project. And that’s the case for everyone except my cousin Alize Ali; he is the one who basically started me off rapping. So that’s what something that was destined to happen.

I know you were telling me that you didn’t have a title for your new EP. How far are you in getting that project done?

I got at least seven songs already recorded, but I’m not going to use all of them. Those are songs I just done, that didn’t have a home. I put them to the side and that be the basis of what I choose to go on the EP.

Do you record your projects as a collective, like an album? Or does each song have its own vibe.

I would say I kind of put the singles together as I go along. I mean each project has its own feel to it. I don’t know if I ever got in there and was like I’m in album mode. The feel I want from each single kind of comes together and feed off each other. So definitely go by each song and then I listen to them and find a common theme. That’s what I go with.
