According to published reporters, at 10.39am Jaylen Fryberg rose from a table inside the school cafeteria, pulled out a handgun – believed to be a .40-caliber Beretta – and opened fire without uttering a word, sending terrified teenagers running for cover.
A witness said at one point during the shooting, the gunman’s handgun jammed, and the boy used that opportunity to flee the cafeteria.
He added that the teenager, whom he described as a ‘nice kid,’ remained silent while squeezing off rounds and had a ‘blank stare’ in his eyes.
