Behind the scenes, Mimi Valdez has been an important person in bringing the untold stories of Hip Hop legends and minorities to Hollywood. She was of the contributors in helping bring Nas: Time is Illmatic to life. She was also one of the producers of the Academy Award-winning movie Hidden Figures. Most recently, she was one of the main producers behind the creation of Roxanne Shante’s Netflix biopic movie ‘Roxanne Roxanne.’ Roxanne Shante has spoken about how she was approached by Mimi Valdes in creating the movie. I caught up with the movie producer and talked about the importance of not only bringing this movie to the screen but also telling the story of several minorities who have contributed to the culture.
