Issa Rae Has A New Show Coming To HBO Following A Black Family In ’90s Los Angeles

According to Deadline, she’s executive producing a drama with The Turner House author Angela Flournoy, who will both executive produce and write the upcoming project. The show will be about a family trying to adjust to changing times in Los Angeles during the early ’90s.

Per the Deadline report, the show will center specifically on the “later Reagan Era and early Clinton years.” It will follow the marriage of a woman named Sheryl, who is an “envelope bounds-pushing” real estate agent, her husband, Jackson, who is a “conflicted” LAPD anti-gang task force recruit, and their kids, son Les and daughter Ebony.

Rae told the publication that she’s excited about the opportunity to collaborate on what is sure to be a compelling story with Flournoy, who knows a thing or two about writing about riveting family drama.

“I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela,” she said. “I was a huge fan of The Turner House and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.” Rae also shared the news on Twitter:
