The High Profile Chicago Case Involving a White Police Officer Killing a Black Man has come to an end. Jason Van Dyke was convicted of second degree murder for killing17 year old Laquan McDonald. The video of Van Dyke, 40, shooting McDonald 16 times has been glaring example of the reckless misconduct of some Chicago police officers actions against Black lives. The incident caused a Chicago Superintendent and the county’s top prosecutor to lose their job. In addition to Van Dyke’s conviction, three other police officers have been accused of conspiring to cover up the crime. The guilty verdict marks the first time a Chicago police officer has been convicted of murder in on duty shooting in 50 years.
