Black Truth News: Tell the People who you are and what you do?

Twone Gabz: Def Squad, Over Achievers in the building. Got my peoples right here; Sweet/Juicy, she definitely a member of the squad. We in the building man, I just recently signed with Erick Sermon, Def Squad, Sony/Red, its been a long time coming; a long time in the city man. I’m the host of this’ Jack Daniels: Jackin for Beats,’ we looking for the nice rappers, we looking for the hottest rappers to give five grand to. You know, we just grinding, finding different ways to get money, that’s all.

Black Truth News: Now I’m going to get to all the outside stuff you got going on in a minute. First I want to get to your music. I know about the stuff you did with Jazzy Jeff, the mixtapes, the grinding. Outside of just getting sign to the majors; what can the people expect coming from you?

Twone Gabbz: I’m working on a couple projects right now. I’m in the studio with Erick, we working on a mixtape. I got a bunch of crazy records I’m doing with home cooking producer Xcel; one of my favorite producers from the crib. We have been working on a bunch of records together that’s really crazy. I don’t even know what to call these records yet; but we got damn near twenty of them. One of them we actually going to release a video for; its call Malcolm X, It’s like a mini movie.
We building a movement called overachievers. Like I said, it’s my people right here, Juicy, this my man Reese right here. What we building is a movement. Like to me, a lot of times people come together in the name of something that promotes violence or negativity or something that tears down the fibers of music in hip hop. But we want to build something that’s actually giving back and building something positive. It’s for anybody who was told you can’t do this or you can’t do that. You will never succeed at this or you will never win at that. If you were able to do it and then some then you are an overachiever.

We just building this movement around that; shout out to Dick Groh, Erick Sermon, Def Squad is definitely in the building. But we are definitely building overachievers up. We got a hellfire foundation. We got me; we got sweet juice, we got Teefa, we got my man Reese, Xcell, S.C, Brian all day Milla, my man bob ten, jus flow, Uniqua, Terry Hunter and we got Rapper Pooh from Little Brothers. It’s definitely going to be something crazy going on at the crib right now.

Black Truth News: That’s what’s up! Sounds like something positive, aside from the energy of the movement. What’s your daily motivation to keep pushing with the music?

Twone Gabz: Two things keep me motivated. I got two children. I got an 11 year old son and an 11 month old baby girl. I look in their eyes everyday man. It’s not about me anymore. Like ultimately I don’t look at what I do as music anymore. Music just happens to be the tool that I use to express different things or whatever. I look at it as more of a mission, a ministry, something I want to say to the world.

When I look at our kids, our babies dying; and on a bigger level, how the parents of those youths are already suffering a mental and spiritual death. So were raising a generation of ambitious but mentally dead children. They want so much but they don’t how to get it. They are dying every day in the streets, so what motivates me is being able to have a voice every day. Seeing all that happen and knowing until it starts to change, some work has to be done. It’s something to do. Hopefully my music can contribute to that.
