Jah Orah & KD Assassin Interview w/ Blacktruth.net

How do you guys feel about the job Obama is doing?

KD: That’s exactly what he’s doing, a job. At the end of the day he’s a politician and they look out for what’s best for them, not the people. He has never really spoken up for us but he would speak up for gay rights. There are gays amongst the oppressed and the oppressors, but I can’t hide my skin tone or the systemic oppression that still exists in American society on account of it. Something’s really wrong with the whole picture.

JAH: Obama has an agenda to push just like all of the presidents . I can still feel the life in him though . I can still see us in there somewhere.

What was your process for writing and recording the album?

KD: Good herbs, good libations, good vibes and feeding off each other’s energy then going from there. We put our heads together and come up with concepts that take off just because our energy is good creatively.

JAH: For the most part scheduling is the first part of the process once that’s done we concept-build , and write /prerecord to preserve the freshness of a first thought, then we practice that and make the change we want to make, if any, then get back in the booth for the final cut. Once we like it it’s done.

What do you think is your number one obstacle to success in the music business?

JAH: #1 thing is finding quality beats and the right team to push our product . So we push it till we find the proper elements to bring it all together. People sometimes think that because the two are so common it’d be easy to find them , but there’s a chemistry to it and it’s imperative to get that science right, there’s always trial and error that’s the fun part though (Laughs)

KD: My obstacle to success is me being too real. You have to be phony if you want in. I’ve done a lot of bad things when I didn’t know who I was. Know that other eye is open now and it’s never closing, even when I sleep.

Favorite album ever and why?

JAH: I’m a lover of music so I have no favorites. That would limit my ears’ attention to much for me and I don’t like biters, so I’m careful not to over-stimulate my ear drums with too much of one type of music or one aspect of music or one song or album. It keeps me from biting off what I like too much. I love my music though and I’m thinking the world will too though.

KD: The Fix by Scarface, because it is a beautiful transition from the streets to finding your higher power.
