Jay Rock’s “Redemption” Album is a Hip Hop Masterpiece

However this album is more than just aggressive lyrics about street tales, on songs For What It’s Worth, Broke and OSOM featuring J. Cole, Jay Rock gets introspective about his life and the consequences of daily decisions people make in their life.  You can tell that Jay Rock has evolved as an artist. His lyrics are razor-sharp and he has diversified his flow to the point that he is able to conquer and devour any type of beat.

During recent interviews, Jay has credited his motorcycle accident as the reason he has become more dedicated to giving his all on each song that he delivers. According to his Breakfast Club interview, the accident took place in 2016 and was almost fatal.

The result is similar to the experience Kanye West went through after having a car accident early in his career. In a throwback interview, Kanye mentioned that after that accident he started to make every song like it was his last.

Jay Rock talked about his near-death experience in the song Redemption. It is a beautiful track that features SZA on the hook and Jay talking about his feelings after the accident. He raps about how envisioned the scene would have been like at his funeral if he didn’t pull through.
