JAY Z Gives Some Credibility to NFL’s Effort Toward Change

The Hip Hop mogul sat down with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and the two shared some of the objectives of their partnership.  “The number-one thing we want to do is impact,” Goodell said. “That we can have an impact together and we can do some really positive things in our community. We listened to our players. We understood what our players were saying, and we created a platform which can help drive change that Colin had raised and the players had raised,” he added.

Roc Nation will help the NFL curate musical acts for the Pro Bowl and halftime at the Super Bowl. It is said that Roc Nation wills use some of the funds from these events and put them back into charities chosen by artists selected to perform. Additionally, the entertainment company will help the NFL bring up social issues through streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and podcasts.

It remains to be seen if the new partnership will yield any significant change in the Black community. However, joining forces with JAY Z and Roc Nation is a step in the right direction. JAY Z still has credibility in our community as someone who is looking out for the best interest of his people. Hopefully, that will translate into the NFL at least considering doing good in our community. “This partnership, in addition to bringing the entertainment aspect to it with bringing football and music together, is going to help us make even greater change. We call it protest to progress,” Goodell said.
