In an essay written in Time, JAY Z talked about the injustice towards poor people in the United States criminal system. “If you’re from neighborhoods like the Brooklyn one I grew up in, if you’re unable to afford a private attorney, then you can be disappeared into our jail system simply because you can’t afford bail,” he wrote in the essay. Jay said “became obsessed with the injustice” after he was one of the producers on docuseries Time: The Kalief Browder Story. That docuseries focused on the tragedy of Browder, who hung himself after being accused of stealing a backpack and being imprisoned on Rikers Island. In response to the unfair practice of confining people who can’t afford bail; Jay Z will help organizations to help get some of those people out of jail. “This Father’s Day, I’m supporting those same organizations to bail out fathers who can’t afford the due process our democracy promises” Jay Z said.
