ORIGINAL AUGUST 21 REPORT: Oakland MC Keak Da Sneak is believed to be fighting for his life in a California hospital. The 20-plus-year veteran rapper born Charles Kente Williams was shot in Richmond, California this morning (August 21). He is now in critical condition.

Keak is widely recognized alongside Mac Dre as a Hyphy movement pioneer. His song “Superhyphy”would open the door for others in the mid-2000s. E-40 featured the raspy-voiced MC on his own pivotal hit “Tell Me When To Go.”

For more than a decade prior, Keak burst onto the scene with groups Dual Committee and 3X Krazy. First appearing on C-Bo’s 1994 track “Stompin’ On My Steel Toes,” Keak and his group would sign to Virgin Records by the end of the decade. Throughout the years, Keak has worked with Mac Dre, Alchemist, Prodigy, Daz Dillinger, Lil Wayne, and others.

The veteran who released video single “Thunderdome” in June was previously shot in January.
