Kevin Durant Injury Shows NBA Teams don’t Care about their Players and Kahwi Leonard was Right

The Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Myers went into the press conference after the game and took the blame for allowing Durant to play. “That was a collaborative decision. I don’t believe there’s anybody to blame, but I understand in this world and if you have to, you can blame me. I run our basketball operations department,” he said. My guessing is the “collaborative decision” that Myers came in tandem from Durant, and people on the organization that he trusted. It is Durant job to play basketball,  that’s what he does. For someone who has been doing something practically their whole life, it is second nature for them to engage in it without apprehension. By the , it is the doctors, trainers and medical experts job to provide their patients with the best possible solutions toward their health. Someone didn’t do their job and it wasn’t Durant. “The people that worked with him and cleared him are good people; they’re good people,” Myers said.

That might be true, but it’s not their character that is in question, it is the motivation behind their work. It increasingly seems that the medical staffs on teams in sports, specifically the NBA and NFL, put the team’s success over the players health. This was the reasoning behind Kahwi Leonard sitting out last season and not playing for his former team the San Antonio Spurs. The team medical staff cleared him to play, but he refused because he wasn’t healthy. Kevin Durant should have done the same thing. Forget the criticism, and your love for the game. Your health is wealth and it seems care don’t care about the well being of the players. With that said, we found out people (including myself) were wrong to question the heart of Kevin Durant. We also found out that Kawhi Leonard honesty and integrity of NBA teams.
