The LGBT community applied pressure on Kevin Hart after digging up some old tweets regarding Gay people. In 2011 Hart tweeted “Yo if my son comes home & try’s 2 play with my daughters doll house I’m going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice ‘stop that’s gay.'” Most of the old tweets have been deleted, but a lot of them cave been captured on screen and circulated online. GLAAD, the advocacy group for the LGBT community, said  they wanted to “discuss Kevin’s anti-LGBTQ rhetoric and record.” The group contacted Kevin Hart’s management,  the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and ABC which prompted Hart to respond in an Instagram video.

“My team calls me, ‘Oh my God, Kevin, the world is upset by tweets you did years ago,’” Hart said. “Guys, I’m almost 40 years old. If you don’t believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don’t know what to tell you. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify, explain their past, then do you. I’m the wrong guy, man. I’m in a great place, a great, mature place where all I do is spread positivity. if you’re not doing that, you’re not on my page.”

Kevin Hart was selected to host the 2019 Oscar’s and said he was given an ultimatum by their academy to apologize about the old tweets. Hart respond in a second Instagram video.  “I chose to pass on the apology,” Hart stated. “The reason why I passed is because I’ve addressed this several times.” he added. Passing on the apology also meant that he will not host the award show. In the end, Hart decided to apologize; “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.” Some people have defended Hart, while others have questioned the sincerity of his apology. Do you think that it was right Kevin Hart had to step down as host of the Oscars?
