Ki Interview with Blacktruth.net

Your video for “Librarian Girl” is dense and thoughtful. How did you come up with it?

It’s based on a real thing. Something that I heard of years ago as a kid that used creep me out because I believed it. At the end of the day I really just wanted the video to be a big mindfuck. I wanted you to remember me.

What’s your process for writing songs?ki pic 2

I really try to dive into the beat first as much as I can. On every song my vocals are just another instrument, and with that in mind I make sure I speak for the beat as well as I possibly can. I like to come up with how I’m going to say something first, rather than what I’m going to say because the message usually gets recognized on the second or third listen anyway, or sometimes never. I think it all has to do with the subconscious mind and all that. Think about songs with tight-ass beats but the lyrics be whatever but you still play it whenever you get in the car. Music is powerful.

What’s the number one thing you think people misunderstand about you as an artist?

I don’t know and I don’t wanna know. Whenever I start thinking about how others perceive me and all that that’s when the world in my mind gets chaotic and leads me being vulnerable to doing dumb or unnecessary shit. I let people think whatever they want and I just control what I have control of. I have way too much work ahead of me in this music shit and navigating through the politics of this music shit to worry about what the next man or woman thinks about.

What are your plans for 2015?

Staying on it. I’ve came along a way but I still have so much more to go, so yeah. Keep chipping away at it and keep building the brand. I really want to put out two projects this year but we will see. My debut Missing Assignments EP will be releasing this year though and the accompanying videos. More mindfucks, new births.
